24. Exhaust Steam Oil Traps

Exhaust Steam Oil Traps:

The steam oil that is carried into the cylinder with the high pressure steam is not consumed, its lubricating properties deteriorate and it is taken out of the engine in the exhaust steam in a continuing process.
Environmental rules require it to be separated from the steam and disposed of separately. The separation is done in one of these traps.
The exhaust steam is passed through a series of baffles that create turbulence in the stream that dislodges the oil and it collects in the tank while the cleaned steam to be removed with a syringe after each run of the engine. Be careful to NOT use this syringe for filling the boiler with water.  A separate syringe is supplied for this job.
